Die besten frei zugänglichen Reference Websites der vergangenen sieben Jahre hat MARS in einer umfangreichen Liste zusammengestellt. MARS ist die Machine-Assisted Reference Section der Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), die wiederum zur American Library Association (ALA) gehört. Solche Listen publiziert MARS jährlich, jetzt eben erstmals als Combined Index, 1999–2006. Zweck: „to recognize outstanding reference sites on the World Wide Web“ – die Auswahlkriterien sind zugänglich. Jeder Eintrag ist mit dem Namen des Projektes, sichtbarem URL, Betreiber und Link auf auf die MARS-Review beschrieben – vorbildlich für solch eine Übersicht.
